Yes indeed, the so termed quanta of light and of crystal vibration are intrinsically connected on the elementary physical level, say as in the familiar Planck Law E=hf.
The intricate elementary connection between them relates the matter-light interaction of the photon to excitation eigenstates of crystalline lattices of solid state physics.
 
Solid state physics is comparatively well understood and analysed, the terahertz frequencies of phonons serving for the the construction and calibration of the mechanical apparatus utilized by the researchers and experimenters.
But the fundamentals of the Planck-Law are not as yet fully realised by the guardians of the scientific modus operandi.
 
You see, the primary Planck-Law is metaphysical and independent on the inertia distribution of the solid states. What you find there, is the elementary reason for the equivalence principle between inertia and gravitation and so the nature of Mass itself.
 
This then is why the massless photon behaves in its wave-propagation under the same mathematical laws as the crystal vibration transmitted as an acoustic waveform of quasiparticles aka phonons.
The quasiparticles are modelled akin to gaseous molecules to allow the statistical approach of quantum mechanics; yet 'everyone' knows, that the phonons are not molecular inertia carriers, but simply 'particles' expressible by the Planck-Law as the energy transmission of crystal oscillations.
 
Then the phenomenon reduces to the equivalence principle; the massless photon AS the result of the acceleration of electric charges becomes the energy-selfstate of the quantum precursor (which you could define as a Planck-String-Oscillator) and the massless phonon forms an analogy in the say 'Simple-Harmonic-Oscillation' (SHO) of the spacetime configuration of the crystalline lattices.
But the photon requires no medium for its propagation, except that of the 'Free Space'; whilst the phonon does require the crystalline encompassment (say as Bohmian pilot wave).
Both, photon and phonon carry massequivalent energy m=E/c²=hf/c².
 
The matter-light interaction so is rendered electromagnetically noninertial for the photon and becomes acoustically inertial for the phonons; both however subject to Bose-Einstein stochastic wave mechanics incorporative the Planck-Law.
The metaphysics emerges from the Planck-Law as the Action-Law; underpinning the 'Free Space' Superconductivity in the Quantum-Hall-Effect; Josephson-Frequencies and the Conductance Quantum (2e²/h).
 
In dimensionless 'string-units' the Action-Law simply states Action=Charge², for the unitisation of Free Space Impedance (or Resistance).
The implication for this is, that 'Free Space' is quantised in a minimum string-energy-configuration. This then leads to a minimum Schwarzschild metric for any spacetime, flat or curved and it also presupposes an intricate origin for this minimised eigenstate in the creation of the universe, in the emergence of the physical parameters from their metaphysical precursors themselves. Space, time and matter, all are reducible to particular minimum boundary conditions and initial selfstates, which allowed a physical cosmology to emerge from its metaphysical progenitor INDEPENDENT from those parameters, except a form of Energy-Potential/Reservoir/Source NOT requiring a preexisting mass distribution as proposed in the standard Big Bang cosmogony.
 
This metaphysical origin for ALL physical phenomena, expressible in the conservation laws of energy and momentum so relates to the origin of the physical laws of nature.
Where, how and why does E=hf correctly and experimentally verifiably describe the quantum mechanics of energy propagation?
My conclusions then correlate many so called 'spiritual' creation mythologies with the premises of reductionist modern science in correlating the measurable EMERGENT physical universe to its CAUSATIVE metaphysical agency; the cause being a bosonic gauge-string energy (GRAVITA) allowing BIFURCATION into fermionic dual string-energy (INERTIA) and say as witnessed in basic beta-minus decay as the secondary manifestation, the primary manifesto being the decay of a bosonic dineutron-string into two antiparallel neutrons (without any requirement for antimatter).
 
The photon then became the primary agency for the transmission of energy between the 'universe's parts', requiring nought, but the CONNECTOR-Vertices between the minimised quantum string-eigenstates - ergo the Natural Superconductivity inherent in the 'Free Space' as the GRAVITA.
Once the 'encompassing' INERTIA became available however in the form of material mass conglomerations, the Gravita of the photons could assume a new form of selfexpression in the phonons and the 'Light of the Creator-Creation Modality' could transform into the 'Sound of the Om, the Acoustic waveforms'.
